Dental Implant Crown

Single tooth implant in row of teethAfter placement of an implant by the oral surgeon or periodontist that Dr. Howrey has referred you to, the tissues are allowed to heal from 3-6 months. When healing is complete, the implant is ready for a crown or bridge.

Dr. Howrey will take an impression of the implant and send it the laboratory where the permanent crown will be made. There are two types of implant crowns: cement retained and screw retained.

The cement-retained implant crowns are cemented onto the implant just like a normal dental crown is cemented. These implant crowns work well in esthetic areas, like front teeth.

A screw-retained implant is often used on posterior teeth. It is held in place with a small screw that is placed through an opening on the top of the crown. Resin is placed in this opening. If a screw becomes loose, the resin can be removed and the screw can be tightened is needed.
